DCLX presents Halley’s Hot Gumbo Swingtet on Jan 11!

halleyDCLX is proud to present Washington’s own Halley Shoenberg in Halley’s Hot Gumbo Swingtet! We’re bringing back this old favorite in her newest way to help you ring in the newest year in the old Spanish Ballroom. She’s an inspired jazz star who’s graced stages from the Kennedy Center to Germany and added her talents to jazz festivals all over DC and in places like British Columbia, New York, and New Orleans too. With her utter mastery of sound and mood (and her clarinet and saxophone), she’ll have you swingin’ out all night, all right.

Speaking of Washington’s own, DC dance team Fidgety Feet will be doing a very special performance during our first band break! Don’t miss it!

We’ve got the fabulous Kelly Pavao and Jeff Booth teachin’ your basics, and the gentleman and scholar Colin Hay spinnin’ your band breaks.

Admission: $16.
Lesson: 8 to 9 pm, free with paid admission.
Dance: 9 pm to midnight.

This dance is presented in cooperation with Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, the National Park Service and Montgomery County, MD.

DCLX Presents the Josh Fialkoff Quintet!

DCLX is proud to present the Josh Fialkoff Quintet! Josh Fialkoff, has been delighting dancers up and down the east coast. The featured band for Philadelphia’s Lindy & Blues – “LaB Love” – in January, he has come into his own mixing traditional jazz with some smoky blues. Lindy Hoppers will delight in his creative arrangements and engaging interplay.

And feel free to come to the dance with your spookiest costume.  Because Halloween is close enough.

Update (24 Oct):  Right before the dance, from 6pm-9pm, the GEPPAC is hosting a happy hour that will serve as a fundraiser for their “Shutdown Relief Fund.”  A lot of artists lost a lot of business (and $$$) during the government shutdown and Glen Echo is trying to do something about it.

Kind of like public radio, a thank you gift for donating $30 will be a pass to the dance later that night with Josh Fialkoff!  You can donate more, schmooze with friends and GEPPAC staff.  DC’s own John Mortenson will be your DJ as you enjoy wine and snacks.  In addition, there will be several free activities that night.  Check out Glen Echo’s web page for more info.

Also note that Glen Echo’s annual Fall Frolic will be happening earlier in the day.  For more info check out their website.
